I don't know if many men are aware that they generally pay more than women as far as auto insurance is concerned.

I am not trying to make the men folk feel cheated, but to make them understand why.

For men who still feel cheated, remember that a while ago, I wrote about "why women pay more in health Insurance" so here I'm simply looking at why men tend to pay more in auto insurance rates.

First, traditionally, women are generally regarded as being the weaker vessel. I am not here to debate on the truthfulness of that theory but that is the general belief.

Secondly, women are believed to be softer than men and also more careful than men, calmer than men. we can actually make a whole list of these comparisons.

Remember, I'm not saying they are true or false. Just looking at facts.

Insurers are business people who want to make as much profit as possible. If you make a claim, you reduce the profit they make. So they really love people who are less likely to make claims and give them discounts and general lower rates.

If we look at all the points of comparison listed above, we would agree that with the assumed difference between a woman and a man, it would seem normal to think that women would less likely be involved in accidents and therefore would less likely make claims.

This is the same way the insurance companies think that make them give women lower rates so women can capitalize on this to get lower rates.

Men, you don't have to despair because you can also get lower rates if you only know how.
