Cheap Car Insurance For a Learner

By Brian Stevens

Learning to drive is a big step toward freedom and independence for anyone of any age. But paying for the car insurance for a learner driver is not cheap!

Whether you're a teenager or an older person who just never learned how to drive, your car insurance bill is going to be high until you have a few years driving experience under your belt.

Don't Give Up Hope!

While your car insurance bill is going to be high, you can take steps to make it as low as possible. First of all, make sure you really need car insurance. If you're a teenager, you may be covered under your parents' policy. Check with your parents' insurance company to see if you even need separate coverage.

In addition, if you're attending a driving school, check if you're covered under the school's insurance policy. Again, you may not need separate coverage until you get your official driver's license.

If you do find that you need your own insurance policy, it may take some work to find an insurance company that will take your business. The easiest way to find such a company is to go to an insurance comparison website so you can get quotes quickly and easily, then compare them to find the cheapest rate.

It's always worth looking at multiple quotes because prices from different companies can vary by hundreds of dollars a year.

More Money-Saving Tips

Some other ways you can save money on your auto insurance as you learn to drive include ...

* Choosing a car that's loaded with safety features, which will give you discounts on your premium

* If you're a student, keeping your grades up so you can get a Good Student Discount

* Maintaining a good credit rating

* Taking Driver's Education and Defensive Driver classes

And remember that in a few years, your rates will go down, especially if you're accident-free.
