The cost of car insurance is slightly off-putting at the moment as many insurers have to cover a lot of increasing risks. The rising value of vehicles is an obvious reason for increased insurance quotes as many newer vehicles have more expensive parts and extras such as built in satellite navigation and parking sensors, and replacing these parts can be costly.
This isn't the only reason for people's insurance policies costing so much; younger or inexperienced drivers typically have more collisions than someone with ten years under their belt.
For younger drivers they will normally have to wait a few years before they are deemed as less of a risk, this is typically around the age of 24 for many insurers at which point they'll be able to get cheaper quotes.
The biggest cost to insurers isn't any of these though; it's the cost of uninsured drivers. Uninsured drivers are costing the drivers of the UK £500 million per year in accident costs, which roughly translates to an extra £31 on top of everyone's auto insurance quotes. This is a huge sum and the biggest problem with motoring at the moment.
More and more people are avoiding auto insurance costs by simply cancelling their car insurance policies, yet staying on the road. This of course is illegal and could result in a hefty fine and a driving ban but the consensus amongst uninsured drivers is that the fine wouldn't cost as much as the car insurance did so they are willing to take that risk, law or no law.
The problem with this is that they are the people who are responsible for the increased policy costs as insurers have to bump up quotes to make sure that they cover the added expense for potential collisions with uninsured drivers. Many insurers have stated that if people were to drive with insurance then they would be able to have some flexibility to offer cheaper quotes.
It is important to have the minimum of third party insurance in order to not break the law, or to try adding another more experienced driver to your policy to see if it can drag your quote down.
Driving without car insurance is illegal and can get you either a driving ban or a fine. auto insurance quotes are higher than usual at the moment but if you were to consult a number of different providers then you may be able to lower auto insurance costs by choosing a different provider. |
