Women Urged to Find Cheaper Car Insurance

By Alex Gregory

Females should pay less for their car insurance - that's the consensus from specialist provider Sheila's Wheels and it's a claim backed up by some serious evidence.

According to the Home Office, male drivers have a drastically inferior driving record when compared to their female peers over the last five years. During this period, male drivers in the UK have accounted for 97 per cent of all car accidents involving death or bodily harm; 97 per cent of all dangerous driving convictions; 89 per cent of all drink driving convictions; 83 per cent of all speeding convictions; and 85 per cent of all careless driving convictions.

These enlightening statistics suggest women are the more competent drivers and a number of insurance companies attempt to reflect this by marketing their products exclusively towards a female audience.

Diamond, Ladybird and Sheila's Wheels are among the female-only insurers on the market with the latter offering specially designed female-related features as standard such as handbag cover and a female-friendly network of repairers.

Nevertheless, despite these incentives, women should still shop around to ensure they're not being short-changed by an attractive deal. Remember that all car insurance providers will offer females a quote and so there is no guarantee that the specialist will be the cheapest. In fact, statistics from a comparison website show that female specialists are often beaten by conventional providers on price.

Thankfully shopping around is no longer a painful task thanks to the emergence of comparison websites which offer females a chance to compare their car insurance online with like-for-like quotes from other companies.

In addition, there are several other ways for women to earn cheap car insurance. As women are most vulnerable to car crime, they should focus on security such as fitting an approved car alarm and parking in a garage overnight to drive car insurance costs down. Agreeing to a mileage limit if you only drive the car on the school run for example, is another great way to save.
