Using a Specialist Website When Thinking About Motor Insurance

By David H Thomson

When thinking about motor insurance, using a specialist car insurance website is probably one of the easiest ways of getting good value motor insurance - and without stress. By allowing a car insurance broker to look for the right cover for you, you are removing the need to ring up lots of different insurers or hit the High Street, visiting various financial institutions who offer car insurance.

In effect the broker does all the legwork for you, matching your needs to the right provider.

Apart from the legal aspect - to drive your car uninsured on UK roads is an offence - insurance is essential. This is because if you were involved in an accident, then without adequate protection in place, you would have to pay out for the repair of damages to your car yourself. If the car was written off then you would lose everything and could even still be paying finance for it.

And if it was stolen, then you would lose out too. If a third party was involved, then they could try and sue you for damages which could mean you have to pay out compensation to them out of your own pocket.

A motor insurance plan will pay for the other party's repairs or claims for injury. Depending on the level of over you have, it could also give you cover if your car was stolen or if it was totally destroyed. It can also cover many other eventualities.

So, comparing motor insurance policies on the internet yourself - or by using a broker - is typically the easiest way to decide which level of plan would suit your lifestyle the most.

There are three core types of motor insurance - Third party, fire and theft insurance gives some basic cover for your car such as if it was stolen, or any third party costs. But it would not pay out for any damage you caused to your vehicle.

If you need full coverage, then you will need fully comprehensive insurance, however this is obviously the dearest option as it offers the most protection. Very basic cover is offered third party only and only protects any third party involved in an accident and will not cover any damage to your vehicle.

It is worth noting that to get a great deal for the motor insurance policy as well as one that suits your circumstances, do check the conditions to see what is and is not covered. Or ask your broker for assistance.

If you just stay with the insurance provider year after year you could well be paying over the odds for the premiums. Always compare your insurance policy at renewal time against others in the market - never just automatically accept your insurer's quote.

Look for the little things that are often found in some of the policies you are comparing. For example some providers will offer you the use of a courtesy car while yours is being repaired.

Going online not only for your motor insurance quotes or to find a broker, is a useful exercise. And don't forget, there is lots of free information there too about the various car insurance types, premiums and tips for making savings on your policy.
